almost faltered as the young man turned to stare at him. He saw into the
most wonderful shade of brown eyes and his heart quickened as the boys face
lit up into a wide grin. Cole paid no attention to the receptionist as he
placed his large manila envelope down on the desk and just stared like a
statue at the face beaming at him.
Miles “Hey, I am Miles”
His heart seemed to be pounding, almost drowning out the young rich
voice of the young man called Miles, and for a second he actually felt
feint, as if he had been struck by some invisible bolt of lightning.
Cole “Uh, I am Cole”
Miles “Cool, that’s a nice
name, so uh, you joining our happy band here or just passing thru?”
It was too good to be true but it seemed that Miles was indeed going to
be a fellow worker and it made the whole scary process of working here seem
all that much easier. His thoughts of death no longer were panicking him or
so he thought as he tried to smile back, hoping he wasn’t being too
obvious.
Cole “Oh, uh, I am joining
I guess”
Cole turned briefly and stared at the receptionist who already had taken
his manila envelope and was opening it. She looked up and smiled at him and
then turned back to look over at Miles.
Miles “Great, always enjoy a
new face here, so come on
Sharon
, give
the man his orders and I’ll give him the grand tour.”
Sharon
“Just like you Miles, always staking out the new ones aren’t you?”
Miles “Passes the time,
haha, but give a guy a break will you, besides at my age, I am at my prime,
didn’t you know?”
Sharon
“So
you keep telling me, but I don’t know…”
Miles “Sssh, you’ll scare
the new guy away… haha, you scare easy Cole?”
The way Miles talked you would have thought he was on the make but how
the hell did he know about Cole so soon? It sort of stunned him a little but
he felt the warmth creeping all thru his body and he had never felt this at
ease with someone before and to be honest, Miles certainly was a looker, one
who had all the right parts and while he wasn’t tanned or golden there was
a freshness about him that made Cole feel alive, something that was strange
to him.
Cole “Huh? Uh no, least I
don’t think so.”
Miles “Great, so how about
it, want a fast tour of the place while
Sharon
gets
your stuff all into her computer?”
Cole “Well, sure, I guess,
if…”
Miles “Oh its okay, right
Sharon
?”
